One of the Miami Valley's citizen soldiers in
Afghanistan is winning the war against terrorism,
and she isn't using a weapon to do it.
Stationed near an Afghan refugee camp she became concerned about the children of
the camp not having the
appropriate clothing to get them through the frigid upcoming winter.
Having her
own children back in the states prompted her act on her concerns. She contacted her mother in law,
who is active in the
peace community, and asked her to collect up winter clothing to send to her for the children near her base.
People in the Miami Valley, and other parts of the state, have been generously
answering the call for winter clothes.
A collection point at the peace museum was overflowing with children's winter
outfits soon after the call was put out
for donations via email and phone.
Boxes of coats, hats gloves... have been packed and are ready to be shipped.
This is how the war on terrorism will be won;
by extending friendship and help to people in need,
by making peoples lives better.
Military used for construction, not destruction.

These are the faces of the future.
It can be a future of hope and peace, or fear and violence.
Our soldier from Dayton like thousands of other
American soldiers who, when possible, use
compassion as their weapon against terrorism are some of the best peace ambassadors
our country has.
The name of our soldier has been purposely left out of this article by request to protect her privacy.
